A friend sent me this article & cute little cosmo-type quiz to help pinpoint one’s generational identification.

Big surprise - I identify with Gen Y. I had 13 points. I would have had 16 if I had parents, but since I don’t I can’t quite text or e-mail them.

The distinction here in the quiz is that X folks use technology - they just don’t early adopt it. They may purchase music online but have no clue where to illegally download it. The second difference is integration of social media tools as a regular communication tool. So, they may go to MySpace but they don’t use FaceBook to communicate with their friends.

These differences - overly simplified as they are - do help point out that the slight variations that exhist in adoption and real integration. The question for someone much smarter than I is whether these distinctions are even meaningful. Perhaps they are just fodder for a silly quiz.

Oh. And my friend? Total Gen X-er. I e-mailed back my score saying, “you probably don’t know where to download music illegally do you,” which was quickly met with a reply of “You’re right, I don’t know.  I just ask you.”
