I love Target. But man oh man, they are making it hard on me.
After the big “Target Rounders” scandal which blew up in December, it seems Target doesn’t see the irony in their PR policy like I do.
According to this New York Times article from yesterday, Target claims they don’t respond to queries from bloggers because they need to focus their efforts on traditional media that reaches a larger audience. Ha! But they have no qualms about unethical word of mouth marketing practices in social media spaces.
Will poor Target ever get it right?
I feel the same way, and I was definitely ranting about it at lunch. I can’t help but love to shop there, but I’m losing respect for the way they do things.
Sounds like Target needs to take an Intro. to Social Media Class. It is surprising to me that a corporation that is trying to be so hip and cutting edge-ish would be such a late adopter of the internet and blogs. Maybe they’re just afraid of getting involved but they definitely need to embrace the market in the blogosphere before they lose too many more people’s respect or step on too many toes.
I love shopping there but for some reason after the Target Rounders drama I just don’t feel quite so good going there.
